Join our team as a Courtroom Assistant I and help ensure the efficient, fair, and professional operation of courtroom proceedings.

 

Position Overview

The Courtroom Assistant I provides critical paraprofessional and administrative support in managing courtroom operations and legal case processing. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals eager to build a career in the judicial system while gaining hands-on experience with court procedures, legal documentation, and public service.

You’ll play an integral role in maintaining courtroom order, facilitating case flow, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements—all while working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.

 

Schedule: Monday-Friday  7:30am-4:30pm

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 DOE

 

What You’ll Do

⚖️ Courtroom Operations (70%)

• Support judges and court staff during proceedings
• Maintain courtroom decorum and enforce rules
• Administer oaths and assist jurors, witnesses, and attorneys
• Process cases efficiently and accurately in the case management system
• Calculate and clarify sentencing details
• Coordinate interpreters and legal participants
• Monitor compliance with court orders and notify law enforcement as needed
• Research criminal/traffic histories and respond to inquiries

Case Preparation (10%)

• Prepare daily court dockets and verify case readiness
• Review files for documentation accuracy and legal sufficiency
• Coordinate detainee appearances and legal documents with agencies
• Verify bonds, attorneys, interpreters, and probation compliance
• Ensure courtroom is prepared with all necessary equipment

✅ Post-Court Processing (5%)

• Close court sessions and reconcile official records
• Manage exhibits and arrange evidence retention or release
• Schedule future court dates and monitor compliance
• Maintain accurate statistics and case records

Appeals Management (5%)

• Process and track appeal filings
• Prepare records and ensure deadlines are met
• Coordinate with District Court and transcript requests

️‍⚖️ Additional Opportunities (5% each)

• Jury Commissioner Duties: Manage jury selection processes, summon jurors, and maintain records
• Referee Clerk Functions: Support trial preparation, subpoenas, and official documentation

 

Qualifications

Education:

• High school diploma or GED required

Experience:

• 3 years of full-time experience in a related field
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered

 

Skills & Competencies

• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
• Ability to interpret legal documents and procedures
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Independent judgment and problem-solving capability
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems
• Advanced reading comprehension of legal materials
• Intermediate writing and basic math skills
