Job Description

Senior Denodo Platform Administrator

We have an opening for Senior Denodo Platform Administrator to lead reliability, performance, security, and lifecycle management of the Laboratory's Denodo data virtualization platform.

This position is in the Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) Division within the Computing Directorate, in support of the Strategic Deterrence Applications Program and the Nuclear Security Enterprise-wide (NSE) PRIDE Program.

Business needs dictate that this position requires an on-site presence multiple days a week. Therefore, telecommuting options will be limited.

This position will be filled at either the SES.3 or SES.4 level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

You will

  • Administer and engineer the Denodo platform across development, test, and production environments, including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, lifecycle planning, and establishing operational standards, architecture patterns, and reliability targets for mission-critical data virtualization services.
  • Design and operate highly available, resilient Denodo services, including cluster architecture, load balancing, capacity planning, and performance engineering.
  • Establish observability for Denodo and dependent data services, defining actionable dashboards and alerts (Grafana/Prometheus and/or enterprise tooling), and driving measurable improvements in availability and latency.
  • Lead incident response for Denodo-related outages and degradations, run blameless post-incident reviews, and deliver corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
  • Define and implement Denodo security controls including authentication/authorization integration, role-based access, policy enforcement, secrets/cert management, encryption in transit, and auditability.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of governance and best practices for Denodo usage including design standards for views, caching strategies, query optimization, and federation patterns to protect downstream systems, working with team members and program architects.
  • As a member of a cross-functional team, collaborate with application owners, data engineers, cybersecurity, enterprise architects, infrastructure teams, DBAs, and mission stakeholders to design, implement, and improve enterprise data virtualization capabilities.
  • Support enterprise COTS application implementations and upgrades where Denodo is part of the integration pattern.
  • Participate in scheduled maintenance windows and provide escalation-level after-hours support as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the SES.4 level

  • Collaborate with programmatic and technical stakeholders, including peers and architects within SD Applications and the NSE-wide PRIDE Program, to understand functional requirements and provide data virtualization solutions that meet business and technical needs.
  • Participate in institutional and programmatic data initiatives, ensuring Denodo services support broader enterprise integration, analytics, and digital transformation goals.
  • Apply highly advanced Denodo administration and/or development capabilities, including experience with Denodo AI capabilities, including Denodo AI SDK, Denodo Assistant, to support intelligent data discovery, query assistance, and enhanced data virtualization solutions.
  • Ensure Denodo platform services, integration patterns, and operational priorities remain aligned with programmatic requirements, institutional strategies, and enterprise technology standards.
Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Significant hands-on experience administering Denodo in production, including upgrades, patching, configuration management, security hardening, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated experience leading platform reliability outcomes, such as defining service health metrics, building monitoring/alerting, and driving incident reduction through automation and engineering improvements.
  • Advanced experience tuning and optimizing Denodo performance, including query profiling, view design, caching strategies, connection pooling, and minimizing impact on source systems.
  • Advanced experience integrating Denodo with enterprise authentication and authorization systems, and implementing audit and compliance controls.
  • Strong understanding of data integration patterns across relational databases and analytics ecosystems, and the ability to diagnose end-to-end latency across networks, middleware, and data sources.
  • Experience building automation for platform operations using scripting and orchestration, such as Python, Ansible, and Shell, and using version control and CI/CD workflows.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours to support production maintenance, upgrades, and escalations.

Additional qualifications at the SES.4 level

  • Highly advanced verbal and written communication skills to influence stakeholders, document standards/runbooks, and lead technical discussions and incident reviews while collaborating with roles such as the Data & Knowledge Applications Architect and the Chief Data Architect.
  • Expert knowledge of modern data architecture concepts such as data products, data services, governed self-service access, and interoperable enterprise data ecosystems.
  • Highly advanced experience applying modern data management practices in enterprise environments, including metadata-driven operations, lifecycle management, automation, observability, scalable data delivery patterns.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a relevant field or equivalent advanced experience leading enterprise data platforms.
  • Experience designing high-availability Denodo architectures and operating Denodo in an enterprise-scale environment.

Pay Range

$175,530 - $267,060 Annually

$175,530 - $222,564 Annually for the SES.3 level

$210.630 - $267,060 Annually for the SES.4 level

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
