Description of Duties / Essential Functions Under general supervision of the Shift Commander and Public Service Administrator, instructs and supervises Correctional Sergeants, Correctional Officers, and Correctional Officer Trainees; enforces and maintains discipline, safety, security, maintenance, sanitation and custodial measures for the control of offenders; monitors compliance with Departmental Rules, Administrative Directives and Institutional Policies. Minimum Requirements Completion of four years of high school education and an approved Correctional Officer Training Program. At least two years of experience as a Correctional Officer in a penal or security institution. Thorough knowledge of institutional rules, regulations and requirements for the control of offenders. Working knowledge of the individual and group attitudes and behaviors of offenders in penal or correctional institutions. Working knowledge of methods and techniques used in discipline of employees and persons in correctional institutions. Working knowledge of practices and procedures in prison administration. Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, run, jump, walk, and stand for short or extended periods of time. Valid driver’s license and ability to properly use firearms.
