Job Title Adjunct Theatre Arts Instructor Location Yuba Community College District, Yuba City, CA 95991 Job Description Yuba Community College District is accepting qualified applicants for temporary, part‑time teaching assignments in the lower‑division Theatre Arts program. Positions are filled based on departmental need and ongoing recruitment. Responsibilities Organize and teach courses such as Beginning and Intermediate Acting; Introduction to Theatre; Production and Technical Theatre; Introduction to Film; History of Film; Musical Theatre Production; Multicultural Theatre. Work with faculty and staff for stage productions. Understand and teach Classic, Modern, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, and Opera. Develop and deliver instructional activities, lectures, materials, and labs for theatre. Prepare and complete course syllabi and outlines. Use appropriate teaching methods to facilitate student learning. Assess students according to the methods described in the Course Outline of Record and submit final grades by the semester’s grade submission deadline. Teach courses as assigned to meet student and department production needs; assignments may include day, evening, and weekend classes, rehearsals, performances, and distance‑learning courses. Assess Student Learning Outcomes each semester. Attend production meetings as required. Embrace a student‑centered, learning‑by‑doing approach in teaching. Participate, when desired, in department, division, and college‑wide initiatives and committees. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understand the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Required Qualifications Master’s Degree in drama/theatre arts/performance. Bachelor’s in drama/theatre/performance AND Master’s in comparative literature, English, speech, literature, or humanities. The equivalent of the above degrees. California Community College Life credential in the subject area of Drama/Theatre. Desired/Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching theatre arts. A student‑centered teaching approach. Ability to work with a diverse student population. Knowledge of the diverse needs of nontraditional students. Understanding of the Community College mission. Willingness to dedicate extra time for program success. Proficiency in using computers and technology for instruction. Experience managing and teaching online courses, including distance learning. Expertise in training actors; experience in Voice and Movement desirable. Ability to teach Musical Theatre. Professional experience in acting, directing, stage management, technical theatre, and/or film. Expertise in areas such as multicultural theatre, classical theatre, filmmaking, acting for the camera, scriptwriting, technical theatre, stage makeup, puppetry, or devised theatre. Physical Demands Comfortable working at heights above six feet (e.g., walking on a catwalk). Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, lift greater than 50 lbs., and operate equipment controls. Capability to stand, walk on unstable surfaces, and work near moving objects. Exposure to fumes, noise, extreme temperatures, and sharp objects. Flexible schedule, including weekends and nights. Salary Lecture rate: $47.74 – $79.54 per hour, based on degree and teaching experience.
