Job Description

The Kodiak plant, known as Alaska Pacific Seafoods or APS, operates 12 months a year, with peak production during the summer months.

Refrigeration engineer is responsible for the upkeep and repair of the facility's ammonia refrigeration systems including: tunnel freezer and blast cell freezers, and flake ice making capabilities. Reports to Chief Engineer.

Re sponsibilities:

  • Operate, maintain, and repair all refrigeration systems in the facility. This includes compressors, pumps, motors, evaporators, and condensers.
  • Timely and predictable attendance. Arrive prepared to perform daily duties.
  • Works with other departments to provide a continuous flow of product through the plant.
  • Ensure all tasks including all associated paperwork are completed in compliance with Plant's safety program.
  • Follow all requirements of the facility’s Process Safety Management program for refrigeration compliance.
  • Exhibit professionalism and quality work standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 18+ years old.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems, preferably in a seafood processing or industrial setting.
  • Certifications: Ammonia Refrigeration Technician certification or equivalent is required
  • Technical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with electrical systems, plumbing, and control systems related to refrigeration. This position is crucial for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify and resolve issues under pressure. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing refrigeration equipment to guarantee optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift ~ 50 lbs, bending, standing, and moving throughout the day, maneuver heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and handle the physical demands of the job. This role involves working on your feet for long hours, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively document work and collaborate with team members.

Transportation, Room and Board

The majority of employees are locals who live in town. Non-local employees may be able to live in our small bunkhouse which is located at the plant . The rooms are assigned based on gender identity, with up to six employees to a room with bunk beds and a shared bathroom. Bed linens are provided and a communal washer and dryer is available on site. Alaska Pacific Seafoods charges employees $5.00 per day to stay in the bunkhouse.

Alaska Pacific Seafoods is currently not providing meals to employees .

Employees may be asked to submit to random, post-accident, or for cause testing at any time, and NPSI reserves the right to search all areas of the plant without advance notice in order to maintain the no tolerance policy.

Payroll Information

Pay periods are biweekly. Our workday is defined as the calendar day, and our work week runs from Monday through Sunday. Employees are paid on the Friday following the end of the biweekly pay period. We encourage employees to sign up for direct deposit but you may elect to receive paper checks instead.
